“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.”  – Leo Tolstoy

“What most people find festive—a weekend at a beach shack with friends, a boat trip down a river, a crackling bonfire on a summer night—I see as a bleak nightmare to be grimly endured. I would sooner put lit cigarettes in my eyes than share a vacation house with a crowd.” – Jancee Dunn

“I think that when two people are able to weave that kind of invisible thread of understanding and sympathy between each other, that delicate web, they should not risk tearing it. It is too rare, and it lasts too short a time at best….” – M.F.K. Fisher

  • Just love those long, straight, American highways!

Hi Chrissie – it’s so good to “see” you, as always. Aren’t those long roads wonderful? They are one of my most favorite things about the west. I also love being able to see a whole, mile-long train from end to end out there. Ah, the lovely things seen underneath those big blue skies! Virtual hug and chop kisses for Dixie and Tilly. :^)
